Glenn management Limited are a Total Facilities Management for Corporate companies and Local Businesses.
Hardware Background
They are using a Windows 2003 SBS Server from an unknown manufacturer with 10 clients connecting using Windows
XP Pro Edition Workstations. Access to the server was becoming slower and slower with repeatedly server failures. These failures were a combination of SCSI cards, Tape Drives and RAID cards failing.
Initial Solution
Networx-IT Solutions implemented a new Windows 2008 SBS server from HP with RAID and UPS. Reconfigured Active
Directory and transferred all data to the new server. Reconfigured the 10 Workstations in a Client/Server Domain
environment. Reinstalled all software. Introduced Iomega NAS drives for the main backup solution with external USB HDD’s for offsite safe keeping.
Ongoing Solutions
There has been an introduction of a Terminal Server for remote workers. Also Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 has
been used to take snapshots of the system for bare bones recovery in the event of a disaster.
A Disaster Recovery solutions has been put in place using an offsite Disaster Recovery Server with vSphere 4 installed
and a copy of the SBS server running. There is also another Iomega NAS at the offsite location and replication takes place overnight.
Result
Overall, there has been a significant improvement for reliability, service and productivity with the additional safe knowledge of a Disaster Recovery solution being in place.
